Posted on June 28th, 2008 in Uncategorized by Mr Hill  Tagged ,

As you know, I have a love of penguins. Seriously. I think it may date back to when I was 3 and my mum took me to Edinburgh Zoo, and I spent best part of 10 minutes having a staring contest with a penguin through a wire fence…

So, to annoy you even more, have a look at what I’ve just found – Pigloo! Penguins in French!!!! My day couldn’t get any better!

How many of your favourite footballers can you spot in this advert? How many languages do you reckon were used? It’s a really cool advert showing the power of being able to communicate with people from all around the world, in many different languages.

Whatever your thoughts on the players, what they do show you, is that being able to understand them, appreciate them and learning languages… is cool!

Year 9 – End of Module Assessment

Posted on June 7th, 2008 in Uncategorized, Year 9 by Mr Hill  Tagged ,

There are a few people getting a little worried about the speaking test that we’re going to be doing on Monday, so here’s a reply to a question from Ben, which was left hidden as a comment on another post, that will help you.

Remember, you can still access the revision materials by clicking on the link in the post below this one, or by clicking on ‘Year 9′ in ‘Categories’ on the right!

What will happen on Monday is that a blank question sheet will be in front of us, and I will ask you the 5 questions in order…You won’t be able to look at your own answers, try to remember them, then say them You have to learn them by heart.

Firstly, you will be able to remember more than you think!! A couple of tips…

1. Revise Q1, then Q3, then Q5, in that order and not 1-5… And remember, its just 3 sentences per question… The reason behind this, is that Q2 is very similar to Q1 as is Q4 to Q3 – just different tenses really… once you have nailed these 3 questions, you’ll find it much easier to then learn Q2 and Q4…

2. Hold your revision sheet slightly to your left, and say the sentences out loud, then look away quickly when you’ve said one sentence…You brain can act like a camera, so by doing this, it is taking ‘photos’ of the revision.

3. Say a sentence out loud maybe ten times, then try and say it without looking at your sheet… keep going until you can say it without looking, then move on to sentence 2 and do the same. Once you feel comfortable with that, try and then say sentences 1 and 2 together, without looking at them…you’ll be linking them together and surprised by the results…

Finally, you can type your answers to the questions into this website, http://www.text-to-speech.imtranslator.net and it will say it back to you in perfect French, so you can practice your accent!!

Also – don’t get stressed about it all – you will be fine!! The fact that you’re on this blog on a Friday night shows that you care and are going to be really trying over this weekend – and that’s all that I can ask for – that you just try your best!!!
