As we’ve covered in Thursday’s lesson, my top set year 9’s, 9H1, are going to be doing a levelling activity during Monday’s lesson, period 1. This is because we have to give you a true achievement mark for this year – the equivalent of your French SAT.

It will be a reading activity, where you read a poster detailling 7 funnily named villages in France and then have to answer a series of questions based on what you have read. You will be able to use a dicitionary during the activity, and only have to give one word (names of the villages) as answers.

Below is the revision lesson covered on Thursday, and make sure you look at the two slides concerned with using a dicitionary. Any problems or concerns, then leave a comment either in your year 9 page at the top, or at the end of this post!!

There are a few people getting a little worried about the speaking test that we’re going to be doing on Monday, so here’s a reply to a question from Ben, which was left hidden as a comment on another post, that will help you.

Remember, you can still access the revision materials by clicking on the link in the post below this one, or by clicking on ‘Year 9′ in ‘Categories’ on the right!

What will happen on Monday is that a blank question sheet will be in front of us, and I will ask you the 5 questions in order…You won’t be able to look at your own answers, try to remember them, then say them You have to learn them by heart.

Firstly, you will be able to remember more than you think!! A couple of tips…

1. Revise Q1, then Q3, then Q5, in that order and not 1-5… And remember, its just 3 sentences per question… The reason behind this, is that Q2 is very similar to Q1 as is Q4 to Q3 – just different tenses really… once you have nailed these 3 questions, you’ll find it much easier to then learn Q2 and Q4…

2. Hold your revision sheet slightly to your left, and say the sentences out loud, then look away quickly when you’ve said one sentence…You brain can act like a camera, so by doing this, it is taking ‘photos’ of the revision.

3. Say a sentence out loud maybe ten times, then try and say it without looking at your sheet… keep going until you can say it without looking, then move on to sentence 2 and do the same. Once you feel comfortable with that, try and then say sentences 1 and 2 together, without looking at them…you’ll be linking them together and surprised by the results…

Finally, you can type your answers to the questions into this website, http://www.text-to-speech.imtranslator.net and it will say it back to you in perfect French, so you can practice your accent!!

Also – don’t get stressed about it all – you will be fine!! The fact that you’re on this blog on a Friday night shows that you care and are going to be really trying over this weekend – and that’s all that I can ask for – that you just try your best!!!
